USA Holiday 2, September 23 (Power Play)

Another day to explore New York. Unlike last time I found the Chelsea Market building, it's been renovated out of some old factory and still retained that look and feel. Then went back to Yankee Stadium, this time for a stadium tour. Of all the baseball tours (three) I've been on, this one was probably the least exciting. All you really get to see is a small "museum" with the championship trophies and stuff, then the park with their monument statues and finally to the dugout. That's it. I expect at least a few more stops, like the bullpen, change rooms, executive boxes and such.

New Yankee Stadium, again.

Autograph wall.

The founding four teams of NY (now SF Giants and LA Dodgers).

Trophies.

More trophies.

Other trophies.

And the new trophy.

Monument park.

Some famous names.

The outfield.

The infield.

Went for a walk along Broadway before stopping off for some dinner. Jason wanted to go to some restaurant he'd seen so we went in and got seated. I think it was the combination of price and timely meal service that he then decided we were going to do a walk-out. Hadn't ordered anything by that point so no big deal, but had to walk all the way through the restaurant and down the escalator to escape. I think we even walked past the waiter that was coming back to our table on the way, so not great.

Found a store version of Shake Shack (the one in the park is a bit smaller). I ordered a custard-based milkshake and some burger. It was ok but nothing special. I also ordered a custard-based ice cream at Atlantic City. Both times I've been disappointed as custard is great but you can't even taste any difference from normal ice cream in these things.

Went to a preseason hockey game between the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils at MSG in the evening. The game was a little boring with only a few goals, but also not many exciting attacking plays, so I'd put it somewhere between soccer and lawn bowls. The worst part was there are so many breaks, and it's extremely painful to watch the many times they have to come out and scrub/clean the ice. A couple of times in the game a fight breaks out between two players, seemingly for no real reason. Everyone else, including the referees, is happy to just watch and wait for the fight to come to a conclusion - which typically occurs as soon as one guy is thrown to the ground. The thing I don't get is, if you've reached the point where you're ready to get into a fist fight with somebody, how do you just calm down afterwards and keep playing the game. It's not as if you've really resolved anything, wouldn't you keep going at that guy for the rest of the game?

Warmup.

Fight time.
