I had to get the bus from Broadbeach at about 7:00am in order to be at the airport with a bit of time to spare. I didn't anticipate too many passengers or traffic at that time, although the bus did have to make a small detour because of the marathon. Instead of hanging around another full day for the marathon and not doing much else I figured I'd get an early flight rather than take up the whole afternoon with travelling.
I'd set an early alarm on my watch in case I felt like getting in a half hour run before leaving, but decided it was better to recover some more. So instead it was just a quick breakfast and then finished packing and headed to the bus stop. I made it in time for an earlier bus that was quite empty, and the trip was fast even with the short detour.
During boarding I got reassigned to an exit row, which was another window seat just one row behind where I would have been sitting, but with slightly more leg room. For once the flight took off on time and even landed a bit early, although it took a while to reach the gate afterwards. I just missed a bus departing for the city, but otherwise everything came in just ahead of schedule and I was home just before 1pm.
In summary it was a good trip overall, despite not quite achieving my goal race time, but that probably matched my performance in training and other recent races. I'll probably try to come back next year for another half marathon, my fifth year in a row, and have another go at improving my time. Like this year I'd probably schedule a Thursday to Sunday trip again.
Later in the afternoon I did manage to get through a five kilometre run despite very sore legs.
8,372 steps with 4.9km
