Gold Coast 2025, July 03

There was just enough time in the morning rush for a 3.5 kilometre run to try out my brand new Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 3, which felt alright from first impressions.

The shoes weren't quite as spacious as my other Puma shoes for length, but not narrow. They were definitely better than my previous evaluation of new racing shoes, the Nike Vaporfly 3 gave me arch pain in less than two kilometres due to the aggressive insole shape.

  • 11:30 train
  • 12:15 bus
  • 1:00 airport lunch
  • 2:00 plane left about on time
  • 4:00 plane arrived on time
  • 4:15 bus came after a few minutes
  • 4:45 hotel matched estimated arrival

The travel went well except it was still a slow trip along the Gold Coast Highway after Burleigh due to the tram line construction, which is still in progress for another year at least.

This year I stayed at Avani, just next to Meriton where I was the previous two years. I ended up with a spacious room with two bedrooms and bathrooms, a kitchen with laundry washer and dryer, and a balcony with ocean view. The only bad part was the TV wasn't very good, and would get stuck when trying to watch off the USB drive.

After unpacking I walked over to Woolworths to get some drinks and food for dinner, just a basic assortment of bread, donuts, and yoghurt. It was already getting dark by the time I got out, so I went back to the hotel and watched some TV during dinner.

The room was slightly on the cold side but acceptable, so I wasn't sure if it was worth trying to work out the mysterious heating unit. Taking a risk the heater turned on displaying 20 degrees but was blowing out cold air, by experimentation I had to change it to a "sun" setting to get heat.

Afterwards I watched some more TV shows and twitch streams on my laptop, along with the AFL on the bedroom TV.
