August Review

This is the August review.

Had a good month of running. Two new parkrun courses at Brimbank and Birdsland - I'll have to go back to Brimbank because the course route was changed due to weather, and Birdsland was a fun flat course so I'll add that into the regular rotation.

I've managed one race per month since July 2018 (two in August 2018) and kept the streak going with a challenging road course around Yarra Bend in the De Castella 15km event. The course was hardly ever flat so I was a bit conservative on the uphill in particular, and it was also longer than my usual 10 kilometre events, I only struggled a bit on the very last hill which was the biggest of the day. My goal was 60 minutes and I came in about 45 seconds under that.

No biking.

A busy month for shares with the annual company reports, my biggest companies all did a bit poorly but came out alright as an average.

I was successful in the MCC ballot so will have the opportunity to attend the AFL grand final again this year, and will try to go to most of the other finals in Melbourne too. The only other event was the Australia vs. USA basketball exhibition match. The feedback from the first game was terrible, so expectations were incredibly low. The view wasn't the best from the first level, but it was acceptable and Australia winning was a bonus. There was limited annoying music played during the game which helped too. The only two problems were 1) the announcers and audio before the game asking 'are you ready' about a thousand times and 2) every kid on the screen doing the same floss dance.

The to do list isn't moving much:

  • Holiday
    • More uncertainty due to work projects, one week if I'm lucky
  • Mobile Phone upgrade
    • Kept putting this off but it was surprisingly easy
  • Windows 10 upgrade
    • Still putting this off, just prepared the USB to install so far

I finished a short three month project at work at the beginning of the month. I thought I'd be on another project for about five months until the end of the year, but instead I have another project before that for about two months. Finally I'm on a project with other people, and having some junior developers has been good too.

That's it for this month:
