USA Holiday, November 09 (The Garden)

No photos today for two reasons. Guggenheim doesn't allow it at all, and I stupidly thought MSG didn't allow it either. Having been on the tour a few days earlier, there was signs all over the place saying no cameras with zoom lenses were allowed, seems like I was the only person who took notice. So, you'll have to make mental pictures for today.

The entire Guggenheim museum was dedicated to one artist, Kandinksy. I'm not sure if it's always like that, but if you aren't a fan of the artist, your visit isn't going to be very enjoyable. So this guy is one of these abstract artists, meaning the paintings can mean everything, nothing, or simply look like someone drew random lines and called it a day. Particularly with the earlier works, I was in the third category. Even if you could take some meaning out of the paintings, so what, it was just a big jumble.

About halfway up the museum it started to get a little more interesting, although only slightly less abstract. I think by the Bauhaus stage I actually started to get something out of the visit, the paintings actually looked a little cool now. There seemed to be more a focus on shapes if I had to describe it.

The audio tour here was 1) dead boring and 2) didn't even seem to match up to where you were walking and what you were looking at.

I have no idea what this is supposed to be.

Cut through Central Park reservoir to get to the American Museum Of Natural History, not really sure why Jason wanted to go to this. So the Pass gives you free entry, but to actually see a bunch of stuff you have to pay a whole lot extra. It was like any museum you've been to, but probably much bigger. My foot was out of action within a half hour of walking around, so I spent most of the time sitting down while Jason looked around the different exhibits.

Checked out the NHL and NBA store (again) as they were in the area, and I finally rediscovered the store that had TAB Colas! I stopped in at a fedex to see what it costs to mail some stuff home, in case I ran out of space in my luggage, and got an estimate of nearly $90 for one jumper. It would be cheaper to buy another suitcase and pay the additional airlines fees - which makes no sense.

Went to the Knicks vs Jazz game in the evening, where to my horror pretty much every person had a camera. And because it's the famous Madison Square (they claim it to be the world's most famous arena) everyone was out in force taking photos of themselves with the court in the background. There's even people with crazy DSLR mega lenses and stuff. So why even put up signs and put warnings on your team website, on the tickets and the like. Just annoying.

The seats here were in a nice location, almost identical to the two Clippers games. Of all the games I went to (Clippers, Knicks and Spurs) I would have to say I enjoyed the Knicks the most. The crowd seemed really into it as the Knicks came back from a 17 point deficit in the first half, the big screen entertainment - celebrities not in attendance like Adam Sandler and Kevin James had contributed recorded clips - and the music selection was a little better too - Jay-Z's Empire State Of Mind got a good run. Celebrities spotted in the crowd were Kevin from The Office and Darryl Strawberry. The guys sitting next to me even started chanting Darrrrrrryl like in that baseball episode of The Simpsons.

Sadly like in the first of the Clippers games, the Knicks managed to blow a chance at tying or winning the game on the final play.
