I need to add another point to my previous list:
7. Players can reject arranged trades
This isn't uncommon, it happens in the NBA too for example. The difference is that in the NBA it is often reserved for star players that specifically work that into their contract and sometimes for veterans. When you have a random "throw-in" to a trade causing the whole thing to be aborted, then it just makes the whole process even less successful. If you sign up to be a professional sports player, you have to be prepared to be traded to another city, just look at Quentin Richardson's 2009-10 NBA off-season so far: New York to Memphis to LA to Minnesota to Miami in under two months.
