A couple of months of solid running are over now, the shin pain hasn't gone away but is not getting any worse either for now. The legs got a good workout with three park runs on the 31 and 1st, but I really shouldn't have ran fast in all three of them. Other highlights of the month were adding a few new tracks at Westerfolds Park to my weekend long run for a bit more variety and the 10km Rosebud Australia Day Fun Run. I was a little disappointed to only just break 40 minutes, but I have not done much longer (than 5km) distance racing in the last year.
I got a couple of new pairs of running shoes to replace a few that are well past their use by date - and maybe contributing to injuries. One pair of Nike Lunar Glide 8 I've started to use already, they look a lot different (worse) to the previous Lunar versions I've worn a lot, and seem to be in between cushioning (for long runs) and lightweight (for short races). I also got a new model of Nike Air Zoom Elite that I've never tried, I haven't worn them yet but they seemed comfortable in the store - don't they all.
I acquired smaller amounts in three shares for the month - Vocus, Crown and Mortgage Choice. Sort of a mixed strategy as two had lost a lot of value last year while the other is near an all-time high - all have a large dividend which was part of the decision at this time of year. I also passed the 200k milestone I suppose - not by gaining in value but just by spending more, so it's not quite the achievement I was after.
January is a pretty good month for sports. The Big Bash was on almost every night but I only watch a few overs to see if the match will be close or not (often not). The NFL playoffs were on through the month every weekend too, and once again New England are off to the super bowl - actually by the time I write this they just won the super bowl, but I'll come back to that after February! And finally, the tennis was back and so was the William Hill tennis betting promotion - not as good this year as you only won 'bonus bets' but I managed to turn over those bonus bets into about $200 profit - not bad...
One big thing to cross of my to do list is I finally got my resume updated - since I had to do it for an internal website at work! For me writing a resume is so exhausting as I hate having to try and make up something that reads and sounds great instead of just listing facts and figures. At least that should be good for another year now. I should also update my Linked In profile once I officially complete my probation period, which I think should be in a couple of days on February 8 but I've heard nothing so far. The next longest annoying item on the list would be the bike - I found a second shop in Ringwood that had some good choices too, so I guess that's progress.
Back on to work, I've remained really busy for the last couple of months and never quite making as much progress as I would like due to learning some new technologies, having incomplete design documents and so on. Anyway...I'm not sure when this current project will finish, it seems to change all the time but now looks more like June than April, which makes holiday planning quite difficult for this year.
That's it for another month of barely summer weather.
